Hicksville To Help One Of Its Own

WallaceFundraiser_051116_picOn Sunday, May 15 (rain date May 22), the Holy Family CYO will host its ninth annual Car Wash Vs. Cancer at Holy Family School, 17 Fordham Ave. in Hicksville from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the car wash will be donated to Alex Wallace’s parents to help defray their son’s medical expenses.

Alex, 12, is a sixth grader at Hicksville Middle School. In December 2015, Alex was diagnosed with leukemia and has begun chemotherapy treatments. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy has suppressed Alex’s immune system, allowing a fungal infection to develop in his sinuses. The infection has had devastating consequences, necessitating multiple surgeries to remove some of Alex’s teeth, part of his palate and an eye.

“Alex and his family have confronted this adversity with tremendous courage,” said one of the event’s organizers, Ed Hebron. “But we as a community have an opportunity to let the Wallaces know that they are not alone in this fight. You can demonstrate your love and support for the Wallace family by attending our car wash, by volunteering to wash cars or by making a donation.”

Checks may be made payable to Michael Wallace and mailed to Ed Hebron, 2 Mitchell Ct., Hicksville, NY 11801.

If you have any questions, contact Hebron at hebsweb@optonline.net or 516-761-6647.
