Joseph Egan, of Holly Avenue in Mineola, is now an Eagle Scout with Troop 381, Hicksville, and Troop 87 affiliated with Kellenberg Memorial High School. The Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can obtain and requires a large service project and 12 required merit badges in addition to many other merit badges. Egan’s Eagle Scout Service Project entailed building a new shed for St. Martin de Porres School in Uniondale. Egan raised the funds for the shed, more than $1500, through a GoFundMe site as well as taking donations while displaying his project plans at Stop-n-Shop in Carle Place. It took more than 400 manhours with the enlistment of Scouts from five different troops and help from friends and neighbors. Egan held his Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Mineola Knights of Columbus.
