The Great Neck Chapter of Hadassah Lulav Group hosted a health event called How to Save a Life at the Great Neck Alert Fire Company at 555 Middle Neck Rd. on May 3.

The Lulav Group is comprised of more than 700 women ages 45 to 70-plus who participate in programs on diverse topics with dynamic guest speakers, often with Hadassah’s
key components of education, fundraising and social elements in mind for their mission.

Chief Motchkavitz and four members of the GN South Robotics Team presented CPR techniques to the Lulav Group.

Harriet Werner, president of the Lulav Group, contacted George Motchkavitz, ex-chief of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company, and he agreed to present basic CPR techniques, the Heimlich Maneuver and how to use a defibrillator to the Lulav members.

Chief Motchkavitz’s brother, John, is the team leader for the Great Neck South High School Robotics Team 2638 and has encouraged many of its members to receive CPR certification. Chief Motchkavitz is also a mentor for the team.

For the presentation, Chief Motchkavitz and four members of the robotics team presented CPR techniques on an adult, a child and an infant. There was also a demonstration on how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on yourself, as well as on another person. The audience learned how to use a defibrillator, too.

The evening was very informative and the Lulav members left with a lot of valuable information.
