Recycled Fashions Get The Spotlight

Recycled__AWestbury students recently had their artwork displayed at the “Yes We Can” Community Center. The Town of North Hempstead exhibit highlights local students’ recycled fashions throughout the month of May. Ten projects, including clothing and accessories created from recycled materials, were displayed in an effort to show off students’ creativity while raising awareness of the importance of recycling. “North Hempstead students have channeled their passion for our environment into these creative projects that even Project Runway would be impressed with,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

Jayden Anderson, a Westbury Middle School seventh-grader, had a project titled Tomcat displayed and middle school students Anthony Iraheta, Shannon Farnum, Andrew Castaneda and George Currasco collaborated on a group projected titled Recycled Royalty. High school students Ayanna Chambliss, Alison Sanchez, Iris Pineda, Anthony Nava, Krista Davy, Itzel Carrasco, Leslie Elis and Joanne Joseph collaborated to create a piece called Trashily Ever After (pictured), which will be on display at the high school art show on May 18.
