According to recent statistics, drug related fatalities have doubled from 2010 to 2014 on Long Island, and they continue to rise each year. The founders of Freedom Fairs believe that prevention will have the biggest impact in reversing those numbers, but that prevention comes from awareness. So, similar to what the ice bucket challenge did for ALS awareness and research, he came up with the Drug Free Pledge, a simple but powerful personal promise that can be made by each young person on Long Island. While making such a promise to oneself may not guarantee that every young person will go on to never try drugs, he believes such a proclamation could help bring the will to avoid that crucial first contact when the young person finds themselves in such a situation among peers.

To make shunning drugs attractive and trending, Freedom Fairs is encouraging young people to take the pledge on video and share with their friends on social media. By giving away free ride tickets to anyone who takes the DRUG FREE PLEDGE or posts a video taking the pledge on Freedom Fair’s Facebook Page, they also encourage other companies and organizations to join in this effort by directly purchasing such tickets. Companies may also choose to offer discounts or perks in exchange for the pledges and Freedom Fairs will help promote them via their website and social media to have as many young people promise themselves–and by extension our community–to shun the use of drugs recreationally.

So if you’re looking for a fun and exciting place to spend your memorial day weekend and help support drug prevention in the community, Eisenhower Park Freedom Fair / Music Festival Carnival is the place to be!
