AGATE of Port Washington (Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education) today awarded a record number of AGATE—Toula J. Halperin Award for Academic Excellence scholarships at a packed ceremony in the Schreiber Auditorium.
The scholarship recognizes overall academic excellence with a minimum 4.0 GPA coupled with outstanding achievement in at least one specific area: an academic subject, a performing or fine art, leadership activity, athletic, or community service.
“I am delighted to honor these students’ hard work, determination and talent with AGATE—Toula J. Halperin Award for Academic Excellence Scholarships. With a record number of applicants who exemplify outstanding achievement, it was challenging to narrow down the finalists,” said Stacey Jawitz, the AGATE Scholarship Committee Chair, “and we are pleased to be able to grant scholarships to more students than ever before.”
This year’s recipients are:
• Andrew Adelhardt
• Nicole Albanese
• Carolyn Blumberg
• Tiger Gao
• Andrew Gruber
• E. Madeline Fagen
• Dylan Lee
• Allegra Noto
• Shannon Russo
• Asena Ulug
“I would also like to thank the committee, made up of parents who are genuinely concerned and invested in the development of all students,” said Jawitz, “who worked tirelessly throughout the scholarship process. It is rewarding to see what we as a community can provide to help each student reach toward fulfilling their individual potential.”
