Local residents are invited to wine and dine at the inaugural Flavor of the Willistons, which brings together area restaurants for a night of culinary goodness.
Organized by the Chamber of the Willstons, Inc., this event was a longtime coming, says Lucile Walters.
“We’ve been talking about it for a while. We wanted to do something to showcase the restaurants in the area,” Walters said.
When the American Legion Post #144 expressed the need for roof repairs-which would run them $75-$90,000-the Chamber thought having a tasting night would be the perfect way to raise money to help them. Portions of the proceeds from the Flavors of the Willistons will be going to the Legion to offset the roof repair costs.
“This tied both things together,” said Walters. “People feel very strongly about the Legion and wanting it to continue and be a success. That played a big part in it. We’ve had a lot of favorable responses and expect a fairly good turnout.”
Walters noted that putting together an event like this took a lot of hard work and planning, but the committee who worked on it was committed to making the Flavor of the Willistons a success. The event will feature fare from 13 local restaurants, as well as two cash bars and live music. The restaurants participating include Angelina’s, Cugini Pizzeria, Eric’s Italian Bistro, Frantoni’s Pizzeria, Harry’s Hilltop Deli, Irresistibly Good, Memories 2 Bar and Grill, Plum Tomatoes, Sangria 71, Sri Pra Phai, Sweet to Lick, Taverna 38 and Yummy Gyro. Vendors Little Art Studio and Salon Eco will also be participating.
“It’s a good way for local residents to go around and taste different food from different places,” Walters said. “It’s an opportunity to show off the Williston Park restaurants and restaurants in surrounding neighborhoods.”
Flavor of the Willistons takes place at the American Legion Post #144, 730 Willis Ave. from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by calling 516-739-1943. For more information visit chamberofthewillistons.com.
