Graduation season is in full swing and the students of the Class of 2016 are celebrating. The first graduation from nursery school is poignant. Little boys and girls gather together to sing the school song and receive diplomas, now facing the next step of elementary school.
As in most families, it is difficult to manage career and family, but a decision is made and whether you are lucky enough to be a stay-at-home parent or continue on the career path chosen, your child’s special events are etched in your heart as you beam with pride to watch son or daughter receiving their certificate. Kindergarten is a full day with perhaps an after-school program to keep kids occupied until mom or dad gets home.
The transition from elementary school to middle school, though done exceptionally well at the school level, is a big change. The fun events of elementary school are left behind and a more competitive environment ensues with lots of new faces and many new classmates. The transition to high school is fairly uneventful, but here is where students come into their own.
The graduates from Floral Park Memorial High School and Sewanhaka High School Class of 2016 will have come together for graduation last weekend. They will be dressed in cap and gown, some distinguished by a ribbon or several, to listen to speeches given by the principal, class advisor, valedictorian and salutatorian at commencement.
To these graduates, we salute your achievements and wish you well as you move forward to a bright new future in the days ahead.
Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 2016!
