The Town of North Hempstead’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Program welcomed a special guest for the final session of the 2015-16 school year as Peter V. Johnson, Columbia University’s Director of Enrollment, met with the students on June 2 at Town Hall in Manhasset. Students from Westbury and Manhasset High Schools were on hand as Johnson walked them through the college application process and spoke about what characteristics schools of higher learning are looking for in prospective students.
MBK is a program that was created by the White House and President Barack Obama in 2014. It focuses on efforts to eliminate opportunity gaps, barriers, and challenges youth face in our community, and aims to ensure that all young people can reach their full potential. The town was the first municipality on Long Island to join the program and immediately sought to make certain that all youth graduate from high school, all youth complete post-secondary education or training, and that all youth out of school are employed.
