Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto (second from right) and Councilman Joseph G. Pinto (third from right) recently attended “Shootout for Soldiers” 24-Hour Lacrosse Game Benefit held at the Town of Oyster Bay’s Field of Dreams located in Massapequa. The Shootout for Soldiers is an annual 24 hour lacrosse game that benefits wounded American military members. The event is a fun lacrosse event for players and teams of all ability levels and ages. Players are grouped into two teams: Stars and Stripes and there are 24, 1-hour games. Participants included boys and girls, men and women, seniors, youth, high school and college players with each group taking the field for one hour.
Teams that accommodate players with special needs also played along with Veteran’s organizations, FDNY and NYPD. In total, 96 teams took the field during the lacrosse marathon which included highlights such as a contest of teams of U.S. veterans, players from the Plainedge community taking the field in a session that honored fallen NYPD Detective Brian Moore and a matchup between the NYPD and the FDNY. In addition, the Long Island Air Force Association conducted a special ceremony to honor Vietnam veterans and presented them with medals that commemorate the 50th anniversary of the conflict. On hand for the event with Supervisor Venditto and Councilman Pinto were Nassau County Legislator James Kennedy (center) and Senator Michael Venditto (right).
