Hundreds turned out on July 25 at Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury for Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center’s 31st Annual Golf & Tennis Outing. The event united those from across Long Island for a day of golf, tennis, shopping and games including bridge, canasta and mah jongg.
This year’s event raised crucial funds for the JCC’s Vocational Training and Employment Center (VTEC) program. VTEC provides young adults with autism and other special needs the opportunity to prepare for future employment through career assessments, workshops, internships, job placements and job support. VTEC currently provides more than 40 internships and has assisted nearly 20 individuals in securing meaningful employment.
After a day of indoor and outdoor games, attendees enjoyed an evening of cocktails and dinner. The event recognized honoree Robert Schmid, vice president and branch manager of CNA Insurance Company, a top priority and casualty insurance company on Long Island. Schmid resides in Wantagh with his wife, Laura, and two children, Lindsay and Justin, who is on the autism spectrum. Schmid, who is actively engaged at the JCC, commended the JCC for its array of exceptional programs and support services which benefit the community.
