Anders Tung of Levittown heads for the Hope Runs Here 5K finish line

Congratulations are in order for 10-year-old Anders Tung of Levittown, who won an award in the Aug. 20 Hope Runs Here 5 Kilometer Run at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa.

Anders crossed the finish line in 26 minutes, 53 seconds, a pace of 8:40 minutes per mile, earning him first place honors in the 10 and under age group.

The Hope Runs Here 5K Run is one of the major events of LI2DAY (“Fighting Breast Cancer and More”), which has raised more than $6 million in the 13 years it has been in existence. LI2DAY has awarded $165,000 in scholarships to 66 students, a yearly breast cancer research grant to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and funded programs that have assisted more than 145,000 Long Islanders. Through local grassroots organizations from Manhasset to Montauk, these programs assist with medical expenses, transportation, prosthetics and wigs, physical therapy, child care, research, education and more.
