Members of the Alert Junior Firefighters of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company recently participated in the 11th Annual Long Island Volunteer Firefighter’s Day at the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Firemen’s Home in Hudson, NY.
The Juniors were given a tour of the Firemen’s Home, a residential health-care facility located on the banks of the Hudson River, over-looking the Catskill Mountains, that’s dedicated to the care of New York State volunteer firefighters.
After the tour, the Juniors, along with other junior firefighters from Long Island, marched in a special parade for the residents. The Juniors were then treated to a tour of the FASNY Museum of Firefighting, which is located on the grounds of the home. The museum showcases the premiere collection of American firefighting artifacts in the world, and houses the oldest documented fire engine in New York State, a Newsham Engine, circa 1731.
The Junior Firefighters program of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company is for young adults between the ages of 12 and 17. The Juniors meet twice a month and receive training in First Aid, CPR, fire safety and participate in other firefighting drills and activities.
