Breast Cancer Awareness Month has come and gone, but throughout the year, these local resources are available to help diagnose, treat and support women with breast cancer. The following organizations provide services to those affected by breast cancer, as well as information for preventing and fighting the disease.
• Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition (GNBCC), www.greatneck bcc.org.
• Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC), www.manhassetbreastcancer.org or 516-627-2410.
• Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, www.breast-cancer.adelphi.edu or 800-877-8077.
• 1 in 9, The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, www.1in9.org or 516-374-3190.
Information on screenings and support services can also be obtained by contacting the New York State Department of Health at 866-442-2262. Earlier this year, New York State launched a new breast cancer textline to help women find access to nearby breast cancer screenings. To use the service, text “get screened” from your cell phone to 81336. After providing your zip code, the service will reply with a message containing nearby screening locations that offer extended hours.
