The Board of Commissioners of the Great Neck Park District has scheduled a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 28, concerning the possible purchase of the Kings Point Tennis Center at 143 Steamboat Road.
A public discussion about the proposal, which would convert the building into a community recreation center, was held on Nov. 2. The commissioners have continued exploring the feasibility of entering into an assignable option to buy the facility. This action would guarantee the purchase while protecting the interests of the taxpayers should the project not materialize.
The decision made on Nov. 28 would not determine final approval for the project. Further discussion on its use, potential revenue, parking and bond approval would all require additional public discussion and a formal hearing process.
Cost for purchase and modification are estimated between $5 and $7 million. The public meeting will be held at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave., beginning at 8 p.m.
