The Music Department of Great Neck South Middle School will present its Winter Concerts on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 349 Lakeville Rd.
Concert 1, on Dec. 13, will feature Orange Senior Orchestra, Chorus 7/8, Band 7 and Band 8 performing classical selections by Mozart, Bizet and Rimsky-Korsakov. Popular works by Charlie Puth, Leroy Anderson and Pentatonix will also be heard, along with a medley of ’80s songs and “Asian Folk Song Rhapsody.”
Concert 2, on Dec. 14, will feature Blue Senior Orchestra, Orchestra 6, 6th-Grade Treble Chorus and Band 6 performing classical music by Handel, Saint-Saëns and Mozart. Popular works by Elton John, the Beach Boys and Nickelback will also be performed, along with a rousing “Winter Wonderland” finale.
Instrumental students are taught by Department Head Alan Schwartz and Mark Boschen. Choral students are taught by Shelley Willcox. Andrew DeNise is the music department teaching assistant.
Concerts are free and will last about an hour. Schwartz encourages all to attend, especially students in pre-K through grade 5, as “these concerts can introduce them to the music they may be performing in the future.”
