Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, the Mount Olive Baptist Church and the Congregational Church of South Hempstead will hold the annual Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Shabbat Service at Temple Beth-El, 5 Old Mill Rd., on Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

This service is an expression of Dr. King’s enduring vision of an America of equality, economic justice and mutual understanding. The guest speakers for the service will be New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Rev. Dr. Patrick G. Duggan, who will discuss “The Message of MLK in Our Day.”

Schneiderman is known for taking on tough fights to protect New Yorkers because he believes there has to be one set of rules for everyone, no matter how rich or powerful. He previously served as a public interest lawyer, spent 15 years in private practice at the firm of Kirkpatrick and Lockhart, and is a graduate of both Amherst College and Harvard Law School.

Duggan is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ (UCC) and serves as senior pastor of the Congregational Church of South Hempstead and the UCC. He also is executive director of the UCC Church Building and Loan Fund (CBLF) and has been an innovator, consultant and management professional in the public and private sectors for more than 25 years.

Along with these notable speakers, an interfaith choir under the direction of Temple Beth-El’s Cantor Vladimir Lapin and Nigel W. Greeton, director of performing arts at St. John’s University, will perform a program of inspirational music.
