Long Island Sports Center (LISC) is Long Island’s premier badminton, table tennis and indoor soccer facility located at 22 Lumber Rd. in Roslyn. As the premier badminton, table tennis and indoor soccer facility in Long Island, its mission is to foster national and international amateur sports competition. To achieve this goal, the facility needs all the help it can get from the support of the community that is active and enthusiastic about great sports that can enrich an athlete’s life. LISC is thrilled to be hosting the first Badminton Winter Junior Open from Feb. 4 to 5. This Junior tournament is sanctioned by USA Badminton (USAB) and counts for 10 percent of Junior National Ranking points.

The ranked LISC Badminton Winter Junior Open is expected to host approximately 120 Junior athletes from more than 11 different states, some of which include California, Massachusetts, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.

“USA Badminton would like to thank Long Island Sports Center not only for their efforts in putting on this event, but also for supporting the game that we all love,” said USA Badminton Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dyrek. “Their support, commitment and enthusiasm makes this event possible.”

For spectators, viewing of the tournament is free to the public. LISC highly encourages any students between the ages of 5 and 19 as well as families, teachers and schools to head to the tournament venue on the weekend of Feb 4 and 5 to view the event live. The LISC state-of-the-art facility hosting this event has great spectator viewing areas and seats hundreds of people. Badminton is an Olympic sport with five events: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Badminton and table tennis are now among the varsity sports in New York City Public Schools. More than 30,000 students from upwards of 200 schools participate and compete in the league. In Long Island schools, badminton has been offered in high school sports leagues for many years.
