Incorporated Village of Floral Park Mayor Dominick Longobardi endorsed Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino for re-election, saying at a campaign event that the chief of America’s largest township has “earned our trust, faith and vote.”
Supervisor Santino’s record of providing needed tax relief to village residents, cutting municipal spending and doing more with less were cited by Mayor Longobardi in his endorsement, as was Supervisor Santino’s support of Floral Park-Garden City-New Hyde Park’s independent review of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Third Track proposal.
“By doing more with less in Hempstead Town, Supervisor Santino is reducing the financial burden on middle class families and seniors. Cutting spending, reinventing government with innovation and upgrading the town’s financial outlook to ‘positive’—all while maintaining and improving services—is an accomplishment of merit. Supervisor Santino has earned our trust, faith and vote,” said Mayor Longobardi.
Thanks to Supervisor Santino’s intervention, “Hempstead Town contributed $25,000 to defray the cost of our villages’ independent review of Governor Cuomo’s Third Track project on the LIRR Main Line. It was a tremendous financial investment to protect the villages’ quality of life. All residents of Floral Park, Garden City and New Hyde Park appreciate Supervisor Santino’s help in our fight to protect our communities,” Mayor Longobardi added.
The Santino Administration has stuck to a constant theme since taking office last year: strict fiscal management. Through government innovation, diligently cutting costs and reducing the size of government, Supervisor Santino has produced a $29 million turnaround of America’s largest township finances.
Since taking office last year, Santino turned an inherited $23.5 million budget deficit into a real, $5 million surplus—and underscored that progress with cost saving initiatives that he relentlessly pursued for taxpayers, including:
- Cutting overtime costs by nearly 50 percent
- Reducing the town’s full-time workforce almost 7 percent
- Installing high efficiency street lighting throughout the town saving $2 million annually
- Saving taxpayers $1.3 million by purchasing used, low mileage trucks at a substantially lower price than showroom new models
Wall Street approves of the cost reductions and strict fiscal management of America’s largest township in the form of three consecutive upgrades to Hempstead Town’s financial outlook by two well-respected credit rating agencies: Standard & Poor’s & Moody’s Investor Services.
“I am excited to welcome Mayor Longobardi to Team Santino and appreciate his strong endorsement of my re-election campaign. My Taxpayers First agenda has turned an inherited $23.5 million budget deficit into a real $5 million surplus. We’re being smart with neighbors’ tax dollars and using innovation to cut costs. It’s no wonder why my administration has earned three financial outlook upgrades in just a year and a half. With Mayor Longobardi’s help, we will score another win for Hempstead Town taxpayers on Election Day,” said Supervisor Santino.
