Members of the Alert Junior Firefighters of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company recently participated in the 12th annual Long Island Volunteer Firefighter’s Day at the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Firemen’s Home in Hudson, NY. Located on the banks of the Hudson River, the home overlooks the beautiful Catskill Mountains and is a residential health facility dedicated to caring for New York State volunteer firefighters.

The Juniors, along with other junior firefighters from across Long Island, marched in a special parade for the residents. After the parade, the Juniors were given a tour of the Firemen’s Home. Next, they visited the FASNY Museum of Firefighting, located on the grounds.

This past summer, at the request of the museum, the Alert Fire Company donated a company banner that is proudly being displayed in the museum. While touring the museum, the Juniors were thrilled to find their company’s banner—and were excited to pose for a photo in front of it.

The Junior Firefighters program of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company, for young adults between the ages of 12 and 17, meets twice a month. The Juniors receive training in first aid, CPR and fire safety, and participate in other firefighting drills and activities.
