North High School musicians have been invited to perform at the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) Holiday Concert to benefit music education programs, which will be held at the NYCB Theater at Westbury, 960 Brush Hollow Rd., on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.
Comprised of 99 student musicians, the North High String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir will perform “Oratorio de Noel” (final movement Quintette et Choeur), “Op. 12” by Camille Saint Saens, and “Satchmo!”—a medley that will include “What a Wonderful World,” “When the Saints Go Marching in,” “St. Louis Blues” and “Hello, Dolly!”—by Ted Ricketts. “Satchmo!” will be presented as a tribute to LIMHoF member Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, and will feature a special surprise guest.
Students will be under the direction of Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music director, and Dr. Pamela Levy, choral music director/fine and performing arts department head.
“Long Island Music Hall of Fame is honored to have the opportunity to assist in supporting the education of the up-and-coming music talent on Long Island,” said LIMHoF Chairman Ernie Canadeo. “We’re proud to have Great Neck share the stage with some of our favorite local acts to kick off the holiday season.”
Top music students from Herricks Jazz Ensemble, Oyster Bay Wind Ensemble and Uniondale Show Choir will also perform at the concert, along with local talents that include saxophonist Richie Cannata, an original member of the Billy Joel band; drummer Albert Bouchard, an original/founding member of the Blue Oyster Cult; and other exciting guests.

LIMHoF is dedicated to recognizing the significant achievements of musicians who were born on Long Island or spent a significant part of their careers here. The organization also supports music education on Long Island with Educator of Note and special recognitions, scholarships for music students and a new mobile music museum designed for school visits.
Last year, North High was named a High School Music Program of Excellence by LIMHoF, which also presented Rutkowski with its Music Educator of Note Award.
