The Oscar and Tony Award–winning musical The Sound of Music will be presented at South High on Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 341 Lakeville Rd.

“South High continues its tradition of musical theater excellence with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music,” said drama teacher Thomas Marr. “This final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become a beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theater.”

During this production with a full cast and pit orchestra, audiences will enjoy hearing all-time favorite tunes, including “Do Re Mi,” “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things” and “Edelweiss.”

Seating is general admission ($15 for adults; $10 for students/seniors), with some limited premium-reserved seating (select a seat in the first three rows for $35). A portion of the premium-reserved seating proceeds will go to the Fran Harman Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in the Performing Arts and includes admission to the special intermission reception.
