In just seven years, Port Rowing has burst onto the national rowing scene by winning medals at the NY State Championships and qualifying boats for the Youth National Championships. Registration is now open for Port Rowing summer camps where residents will train and race in singles, doubles/pairs, fours and eights to maximize water time and gain valuable experience.
High school training camps will run Mondays through Fridays from 8 to 11 a.m. and include three sessions; one from June 25 to July 6, a second from July 9 to 21 and a third from July 23 to Aug. 3. Each session is $400 and all sessions are $999 if prepaid.
Aside from the three-time two-week sessions, Port Rowing will also host a three-week competitve camp to prepare for US Rowing Club Nationals on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, NJ. Club Nationals is a highly competitive multi-day regatta, racing multiple races in possibly different events. If interested in this camp, reach out to either coach Isa or coach Michiel to see if this camp is for you.
The summer session regattas include the Philadelphia Youth Regatta on July 21 and the Overpeck Summer Sprints on Aug. 3. Additional trip fees apply.
The middle school camp is geared towards rising seventh, eighth or ninth graders who have already some middle school rowing experience or are new to the sport. If new to the sport (learn-to-row), Port Rowing will teach the basics of the rowing technique first on land and will transition onto the water soon afterwards. Learning to row during the summer is an excellent way to row more competitively in the fall.
Those new to Port Rowing must complete a swim test to be witnessed and signed by a certified lifeguard. Offered dates and times are the same as for the high school camps, except for attending the races.
Both high school and middle school camps have extra options. Participants have the opportunity to add a one-week program to one of their two or four week camp program. You cannot sign up for just one week of rowing. The one-week has to be combined with one of the other camps listed above. When registering, the option can be found under Camps and Clinics. The cost is $200.
