The Manhasset High School boys varsity basketball team had a tremendous 2017-18 season, finishing third in the AA/A-III Conference. The team had ended the season with an 8-5 conference standing finishing behind Great Neck South and Calhoun, advancing them into the playoffs.
The season began with a 51-49 win over the Port Washington Vikings in December and ended with a 62-77 loss to the Garden City Trojans in the playoffs to end their season. The basketball team roster included Cole and Jack Zaffirro, Steve Theodoropolous, Chris Themelis, Thomas Santella, Nick Quinn, Louis Perfetto, John Mastando, Joe Locurto, Matt Donnell, Jack Cargiulo, Joe Busch and Alvin Ahmetas. The team had an overall scorecard of 10 wins and 11 losses. Coaches for the varsity season are George Bruns and Stu Goldman.
Four Manhasset Varsity Basketball players were honored at the 2018 Nassau County Boys Basketball Coaches Association Annual Awards Dinner at the Long Island Marriott on March 26. Juniors Mastando, Perfetto, Santella and Themelis all received recognition for their outstanding performance on the Manhasset Varsity Basketball team this 2017-18 season. Themelis, received All-County and Mastando, Perfetto and Santella received All-Conference. Junior Varsity (JV) coach Andre Vanterpool was named JV Coach of the Year.
