Prior to the parade, Legionnaires have been distributing poppies at Stop & Shop and will have a table set up in front of the Legion building on South Street. On Saturday, May 26, the American Legion, AMVETS and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold services at four locations: Memorial Field, TR’s grave site, the Quentin Roosevelt memorial at Sagamore Hill and at the monument in front of the Italian-American Club.

On May 19, the American Legion and AMVETS, with help from Boy Scout Troop 299 and Girl Scout Troop 265, placed approximately 300 flags at four local cemeteries.

The Legion supplied the flags on the telephone poles lining the parade route. The flags were placed on the telephone poles by Harry Whaley & Son in honor of the veterans and will remain flying until after Labor Day.
