The day dawned cloudy, without rain, making for perfect parade weather for the annual Manhasset Memorial Day Parade. This year’s parade seemed to bring out many new groups to march in memory of our troops. The hundreds of marchers were greeted along Plandome Road by a cheering audience bedecked in red, white and blue outfits.
The many organizations came together from all over Manhasset to proudly represent their participation in Manhasset’s community life. With the music of the Manhasset High School Band and several bagpipe groups, the crowd waved flags and enjoyed the crooning of the special barbershop singers who sang “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to the women in the crowd.
New to the parade this year were several floats which touched the hearts of all who watched as they glided by, reminding parade-goers of the meaning of the day.
The glorious fire trucks signaled the conclusion of the parade with the fire trucks representing all areas of Plandome and Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department.
A Memorial Day Service followed at Manhasset High School.
