Manhasset girls lacrosse is having an awesome season and looks like it could go the distance. The Indians are in 8-1 in Conference 1 and 13-1 overall with their only loss occurring in their first game against Cold Spring Harbor in a tight game. Since then, they have never looked back and confidently won each and every challenge put forth including their most recent game against Mepham where they demolished the team winning 21-4 getting them on the road to the Class B County semifinals on Thursday, May 24.
During the Mepham game Lauren Yun scored two goals, Grace Gately scored five goals, Kelly Trotta and Maria Themelis scored three times, Shea Garcia scored two; Paige Accurso, Lindsay Giacobbe, Tierney Harmon, Jess Postiglione, Sydney Rohlfing and Maggie Beresheim had one each Abby Kolyer played goalie and had two saves. Krissy Kowalski had one save.
Manhasset girls lacrosse has been coached by Danielle Gallagher for the past 13 seasons. The team is currently number one in the conference with Cold Spring Harbor and Garden City in second and third. Gallagher and her assistant coaches Meg Clarke and Jackie Williams have worked the girls to become a cohesive team that rocketed the team’s Nike?U.S. Lacrosee High School National rankings from number seven seed to the current standing of number two in the country.
Key to the success of the team is goalie Krissy Kowalski who has done an amazing job during the season. Gallagher credits the success of the team to the depth of all the players so that when illness or injury strike, the team continues to function like a well oiled machine.
Should the Indians continue their winning ways in the semifinals, they will advance to the Class B County Finals on May 31. Go Set!
