Katie Oppo graduated from Manhasset High School in 2009. She was diagnosed with Stage IV hypercalcemic small cell ovarian carcinoma, a rare form of ovarian cancer, in August 2010, just prior to beginning her sophomore year at John Hopkins University. After an eight month battle, she passed away on April 11, 2011. The Katie Oppo fund continues to fund research to cure this disease. Donations can be made online at www.teamkatieoppo.org/donate.
The first Katie Oppo Memorial Walk/Run was scheduled on July 24, 2011. Team Oppo was created by Oppo’s friends and family to commemorate her memory and ensure her a lasting legacy. The run was 6.19 km long in memory of her birthday on June 19. She was a brave girl, who inspired many people with her will and ability to face the future with pride and strength. Oppo inspired her family to start a fund to support further research on this rare cancer.
Come out to support Team Oppo in fighting this heinous disease.
