SCA Fair Comes To Town

SCAFair 050119ECoverOption2The Manhasset School Community Association (SCA) will be holding its 2019 SCA Fair, a fun-filled community event, on Saturday, May 4, at Munsey Park Elementary School in Manhasset. The fair will have fun for then entire family including carnival rides, great food, entertainment, attic-treasures, carnival games and more.

“The SCA Fair has been around for many years,” said SCA executive co-president Marybeth Accurso. “It’s a community tradition and traditions are really important to try to keep because these days, there aren’t many traditions left.”

Accurso explained that she knows first-hand what organizing the yearly fair takes, as she ran it in 2006. The one-day fair takes years worth of parents getting involved in committees, a committee of chairpeople and a full year of planning that starts just a few weeks after each fair ends.

During the fair, Accurso may be found stationed at the hot dog tent along with administrators like Dr. Vincent Butera or board of education member Regina Rule, serving up a fair staple.

“It’s just a spectacular day for the whole family,” said Accurso. “I’m so thankful and grateful to everyone who takes the job of the fair upon themselves. This is the largest fundraiser we have. The kids are all smiles that day and everyone is full of sugar and hot dogs.”

Locals can buy unlimited ride bracelets; $40 for one and $70 for two from SCA representatives at Raindew (465 Plandome Rd.) May 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or online. Visit www.manhassetsca.org for more information.

The proceeds raised at the event go toward the SCA, which provides a variety of programs to enrich the education and social life of Manhasset’s children including curriclum-related enrichment programs, Saturday series recreational programs, family theater series, recreational programs, summer studies awards, college grants and more.

For those looking to volunteer, the needs begins on Thursday, May 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the book collection at Munsey Park School under the Big Tent. It continues Friday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. when attic treasures, sports garden, and toy donations are collected. On Fair Day, Saturday, May 4, many volunteers are needed to support the sale under the big tent, ticket booths, rock wall and grand raffle among others.
