At the Village of Floral Park’s most recent board meeting at village hall, Mayor Dominick Longobardi welcomed the village’s new Superintendent of Buildings, Renee Marcus, who is filling the position that was vacated by Stephen Siwinski, who retired from the village last month. Marcus is a licensed architect and comes to the village with a wealth of experience in her field. Longobardi said that everyone within the village is looking forward to working with Marcus, saying that they are pleased she is joining the village family. Marcus’ first day of employment was on Sept. 3.
“After interviewing a number of highly-qualified candidates, Renee was selected as the best candidate and fit for our village,” said trustee Frank Chiara, who is the liaison to the village’s building department. “She’s a highly-qualified registered architect with experience in project managing, constructive administration design and code enforcement. I am looking forward to working with her and welcome her to our village.”
Longobardi also announced the promotion of Kevin Ginnane from Deputy Superintendent of Public Works to Superintendent of Public Works. Ginnane, who has been with the village for more than 18 years.
As most village residents know, Tulip Avenue was recently repaved by Nassau County from Covert Avenue to Carnation Avenue. Deputy Mayor Kevin Fitzgerald reported that several dead trees were taken down on Tulip Avenue in anticipation of the repaving. According to Fitzgerald, the village is currently looking at options for streetscaping improvements.
Crime in the village is also down from 23 percent to 17 percent while vehicle and traffic summonses are up 58 percent from 937 to 1,482.
The annual Covert Avenue Street Fair will be back in town on Saturday, Sept. 21, celebrating its 25th year. According to trustee Lynn Pombonyo, the street fair will feature crafts, face painting, inflatables, live bands, raffles, a rock wall, food and store sales, mums, pumpkins and more.
Trustee Archie Cheng told residents that electrical work is in progress under the viaduct at the Floral Park station. Trenching work under the viaduct for the elevators that will be installed at the station should be completed by December of this year.
