The Manhasset Community Fund has announced a Special Drive to provide immediate support for our local charities that are straining under unprecedented need.
John Morse, Fund President, released the following statement: “The COVID-19 virus has impacted many families in Manhasset and has hit those least able to cope the hardest.”
- “Families that lost paychecks have a dire need to purchase food, medicine, and the basics for their kids. Funds raised will be used to help,” indicated Diana Holden, Executive Director of Adventures in Learning.”
- ” Families are experiencing food shortages. There is so much need for food among neighbors who have lost their jobs, we cannot fill them all without help. The pantry needs expanded support for volunteers and deliveries,” says Jim Owens, The Manhasset Food Pantry Pastor, located at the EOC.
Social isolation not only breeds greater dependence on drugs and alcohol, but heightens anxiety, depression and family tensions. Suicide line calls are up significantly. Online counseling is being expanded.
People already dealing with cancer are struggling to get to needed care safely, while hospitals and medical staff are stretched to capacity.
Since 1946, The Manhasset Community Fund, staffed entirely by non-paid volunteers, has supported people who have significant challenges in our community. Manhasset residents can continue our tradition of caring and kindness.”
