Manhasset Public Schools has announced the appointment of Mark Oppenheimer as the new assistant principal at Manhasset Secondary School.

Oppenheimer comes to Manhasset with more than 22 years of experience in education. He spent most of his teaching career in Central Ohio, including 16 years in the classroom as a high school instrumental/band music educator. After leaving the classroom, Oppenheimer served as a school building leader with the positions of middle school athletic director and assistant principal, as well as elementary school principal. In his later years, Oppenheimer had the opportunity to work for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for three years, teaching and managing a nationwide All-Star Marching Band.

Since moving to New York from Ohio, Oppenheimer held leave replacement and substitute teaching positions with the Westbury Union Free School District and Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. Most recently, he has worked as the assistant principal at Schreiber High School and Weber Middle School in the Port Washington Union Free School District.

“My goal since moving to Long Island has been to continue my career as a school building leader where I can help students and faculty members grow,” Oppenheimer said. “Moreover, become part of an amazing community of people, rich with a tradition of excellence, like Manhasset.”

Oppenheimer’s appointment to assistant principal is effective Aug. 18.

“We welcome Mr. Oppenheimer to our Manhasset school community,” Secondary School Principal Dr. Dean Schlanger said. “He will be an excellent addition to the Secondary School, and we look forward to all he will contribute to our students and their families.”
