The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that beginning Monday, October 17, both directions of the Loop Parkway in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, will be closed to traffic on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The overnight closures are necessary to facilitate the ongoing rehabilitation of the drawbridge over Long Creek and are expected to last three weeks, weather permitting.
Additionally, the Loop Parkway drawbridge will be reduced to one lane in both directions from Monday, October 24, through approximately May.
During the overnight closures, a signed detour will be available between the Long Beach barrier island and Long Island’s mainland via the Long Beach Bridge (Long Beach Boulevard connecting the City of Long Beach and the Village of Island Park).
The electronic message signs near the bridge will display additional updates and information.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
