Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C-Bethpage) stood alongside Assembly Republican Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski), Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt (R,C-North Tonawanda), other members of the Assembly/Senate Republican Conferences as well as members of the law enforcement community to continue calls for stronger oversight of the state parole board. Since 2017, the parole board has freed 41 cop killers. Another cop killer, Mitchell Martin, who killed NYPD Officer James Whittington in 1982 and was sentenced to a maximum term of life imprisonment, is scheduled for a parole board hearing on June 11, 2024.
“I am proud to support my Republican Conference colleagues to call for immediate change,” said Mikulin. “The New York State Board of Parole is failing New Yorkers. NYPD Officer James Whittington deserves justice—his killer deserves to remain in prison.”
Assemblyman Mikulin represents the parts of East Meadow, Bethpage, Levittown, Island Trees, Massapequa, North Massapequa, Plainedge, Seaford, South Farmingdale, Wantagh and Westbury (Salisbury), consisting of parts of Nassau County.
