Serious Vehicular Accident

The NCPD Homicide Squad reports the details of a serious vehicular accident that occurred on Wednesday, June 26 at 6:45 p.m. in Bethpage. According to detectives, a 35-year-old male was operating a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on South Broadway when he collided with a 2017 Cadillac SUV operated by a 28-year-old female traveling northbound on South Broadway turning left into a parking lot. Both operators were transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment. The motorcyclist is listed as in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.

East Meadow

Arrest for Assault

The NCPD First Squad reports the arrest of an East Meadow man for an incident that occurred on Friday, June 28 at 11:05 p.m. in East Meadow. According to detectives, defendant Oscar Aguilar, 31, of 1536 Prospect Avenue was involved in a verbal argument with a 42-year-old male victim at his residence. The argument escalated, and the defendant slashed the victim’s left hand with a box cutter causing a serious laceration. Officers responded and placed defendant Oscar Aguilar under arrest without further incident. The victim was transported by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition. Defendant Oscar Aguilar is charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Saturday, June 29 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.

Elmont

Arrest for Grand Larceny

The Nassau County Police Department Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Staten Island man for a grand larceny/elder scam that occurred on Monday, June 24 at 8:00 a.m. in Elmont. According to detectives, a 77-year-old male while inside his Elmont residence using his computer, received a prompt to call a phone number. He called and spoke to an unknown male claiming to work for the Federal Reserve. The subject instructed the victim that he needed to withdraw all of his money from his bank account pending an investigation. The victim withdrew a total of $47,000 in cash and two unknown male subjects picked it up. The victim received numerous phone calls from different numbers following up with him which caused him to believe it was a scam and call 911. The first subject is described as a Hispanic male who is approximately 5’5” tall with an average build. The second subject is described as a Black male who is approximately 5’10” tall with a thin build. On Thursday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m., the male victim received additional phone calls from the same male requesting an additional $10,000.00 in cash and stating a representative would come to his home to pick up the money. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Lin Qiu, 46, of 4787 Hylan Boulevard. Defendant Lin Qiu is being charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny and third-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned on Friday, June 28 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead. The investigation is ongoing. The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or fraud. Detectives request anyone with information on the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.

Garden City

Serious Vehicular Accident

The NCPD Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a fatal vehicular accident involving a motorcycle that occurred on Saturday, June 29 at 3:50 p.m. in Garden City. According to detectives, a 28-year-old male operating a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle was involved in a collision with a 2007 Lexus, being operated by a 66-year-old male on Old Country Road in the vicinity of Prescott Street. The victim has since been identified as Sanan Malik of Elmont. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male operator of the 2007 Lexus was transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Massapequa

Arrest for Assault of a Police Officer

The NCPD Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Long Beach female for an assault that occurred on Thursday, June 27 at 9:25 p.m. in Massapequa. According to detectives, officers responded to a disturbance at The Boat Yard Bar at 1 Ocean Parkway. During the investigation, a female subject became violent and combative and struck a police officer in the face. The officer suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene. Defendant Nyasia Coombs-Jones, 27, of 160 E Pine Street was subdued and placed under arrest. No other injuries were reported. Defendant Coombs-Jones is charged with second-degree assault and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration. She was arraigned on Friday, June 28 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead. 

North Merrick

Arrest for Burglary

The Nassau County Police Department First Squad reports the arrest of a North Merrick man for an incident that occurred on Monday, July 1 at 1:25 a.m. in North Merrick. According to detectives, First Precinct officers responded to Jim-Jam Cleaners, located at 1200 Merrick Avenue for an audible alarm. Upon arrival, the defendant, Jose Portillo-Sandoval, 36, of 1554 Jerusalem Avenue, was observed walking away from the location. The defendant was recognized as being responsible for previous burglaries and was detained by First Squad detectives. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the defendant had entered the business through a rear window, removed a cash register, and fled the location. The defendant was placed into police custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing. Subsequent to the investigation, the defendant also has open Nassau County warrants for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and petit larceny. Defendant Portillo-Sandoval is charged with third-degree burglary. He will be arraigned on Monday, July 1 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

Old Bethpage

Arrest for Vehicular Assault, Assault, and DWI

The NCPD Homicide Squad reports the arrest of an East Meadow woman for a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Friday, June 28 at 7:20 p.m. in Old Bethpage. According to detectives, defendant Cheryl Bergenstock, 64, of 1945 Longfellow Avenue, while operating a 2023 Subaru Forester, struck a 2019 Toyota Corolla being operated by a male victim, 82, on Round Swamp Road near Winding Road. As a result of the collision, the male victim, who has been identified as Alan Goldsand, was airlifted by the Nassau County Police Department’s Aviation Unit to a nearby hospital and later pronounced deceased by a staff physician. Defendant Bergenstock was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. A subsequent investigation revealed that defendant Bergenstock was operating her vehicle in an intoxicated condition and was placed under arrest. Defendant Cheryl Bergenstock is charged with second-degree vehicular assault, second-degree assault, and driving while intoxicated.
