Willow’s Cove, a premier hair salon in Mineola, is thrilled to announce the opening of a unique art exhibition featuring the captivating works of Jenny La Monica, a local artist and professor at Molloy University.

The exhibition, titled “Repurposed Rainbows” opened on June 1st and will run through August 1st, showcasing a collection of vibrant artworks created from plastics found while beach combing along Long Island’s shores. La Monica practices beachcombing as mindfulness and creates her art as a contemplative practice.

“Repurposed Rainbows” is more than an art show; it is a powerful commentary on environmental concerns and a celebration of our interconnectedness with one another and the natural world. La
Monica’s innovative pieces transform discarded materials into visually striking works of art, drawing attention to the pressing issue of plastic pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems. Each piece in the collection tells a story of the environmental challenges we face and the beauty that can emerge from conscientious stewardship of our surroundings.

This collaboration between Jenny La Monica and Karina Mauro, the owner of Willow’s Cove Salon, represents a meaningful partnership aimed at enriching the local cultural landscape and fostering community connections. By hosting the exhibition in a non-traditional art venue, both artist and salon owner seek to engage a broader audience, encouraging visitors to reflect on their relationship with the environment in an everyday setting.

“We are excited to host Dr. La Monica’s extraordinary work and to be part of a project that combines art, environmental advocacy, and community engagement,” said Mauro. “This exhibition not only enhances our salon space but also contributes to the cultural vibrancy of our community.”
