National Vanilla Ice Cream Day Storycraft
2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. (Garden City Public Library, 60 7th St, Garden City) Children entering Grades K-5 in Fall 2024 can mingle and make new friends while enjoying ice cream with a choice of toppings. Online registration with a Library Card on Eventkeeper is required beginning July 16 at 10am. You must do a separate registration for each child you wish to attend this program. It is Library policy that parents of children under 10 attending a program remain at the Library throughout and meet the child upon completion of the program. THE SPARROWS in “Once More, From the Top!” A Musical Comedy
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury) It’s 1936. After a romantic entanglement gone wrong, the biggest dancing duo of the century abruptly leave their partnership—and movie careers—behind. An aspiring director seeks to bring them back together for one last film…but will they be able to keep it together when the cameras start rolling? Live music by The Sparrows will accompany the show, featuring all of your favorite jazz standards. Maestro Scott Stickley leads the group, with arrangements by John Yao. It’ll be a night of dance, jazz, foiled plans, mistaken identities, and plenty of shenanigans to go around. Members of the production are returning to the Gardens after their successful performances last year in The Beautiful and the Damned and Christmas 1945. Period attire is always welcome but never required! Price: $40; members receive a 20% discount

5:30 p.m. (Hillside Public Library, 155 Lakeville Road New Hyde Park) Jason Reilly is back again with his frogs, bugs, and other furry friends! Meet Princess the Toad, Tickles the Hedgehog and Chica the Chinchilla and learn cool facts about each animal. This program will include animal facts, lots of laughing, and of course a chance to touch & pet the animals! Suited for ages 6 – 12 years.

Dennis Raverty – Henry Rousseau A ‘Primitive’ among the Modernist
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Garden City Public Library, 60 7th St, Garden City) Rousseau was a self-trained painter and customs official in turn-of-the-century Paris, whose fantastic, dreamlike worlds inspired Picasso and the Cubists, but was also a major influence on artists like Chagall or the later Surrealists, who likewise explored the dark regions of the imagination.
