New York Rangers legend Stéphane Matteau’s appearance at the LIU golf outing was one to remember for the 76 golfers who had the opportunity to tee off with the Stanley Cup champion at Indian Hills Country Club on Monday.

“What a great event with a fantastic turnout,” Matteau said. “The best part of the day was meeting everyone and having a chance to connect with the Long Island University community.”

Matteau, stationed at hole six, met, greeted, and teed off with each foursome throughout the afternoon.

The outing also included 20 sponsors, including LIU Athletics corporate sponsors Northwell Health, UA/BSN, NYU Langone and Gourmet Dining.

Members of the 2009 men’s lacrosse hall of fame team and LIU Athletics Hall of Famer Bob Jahelka also attended the outing, along with former LIU athletic director Vin Salamone.

Mike Macrou, Kevin Gumas, Matt Ward, and Scott Murphy wrapped up the 18-hole outing with a first-place finish. The group shot a combined total of -59.

Matthew Noll, Joshua Noll, Zachary Noll, and Cameron Smith finished in second place, shooting -62.

Smith also claimed the longest drive on the men’s side, while LIU women’s lacrosse head coach Meghan McNamara-Cafiero won the longest drive among the women.

Vincent Caccatoic won closest to the pin.
