East Meadow

Arrest for Trespassing

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an incident that occurred on Friday, Aug. 2 at 1:13 a.m. in East Meadow.

According to detectives, officers responded to Eisenhower Park for a disturbance. Upon arrival, Nassau County Public Safety officers informed officers that multiple people were trespassing under the pavilion near field one. Officers located the trespassers, informed them that they were trespassing, and ordered them to leave.

Getho Brevette, 27, became verbally combative and refused to leave. Brevette removed a pair of scissors from his bag and swung them at the officers in a threatening manner.

Officers drew their Electronic Control Device, ECD, and ordered Brevette to drop the scissors. Brevette threw the scissors, striking one of the officers in the chest. The officers deployed their ECDs, which caused Brevette to fall to the ground and officers were able to place him under arrest.

Brevette was removed by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported.

Brevette is charged with two counts of third-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, resisting arrest, second degree of obstructing governmental administration, and trespass. He was arraigned on Aug. 2 at First District Court, 99 Main St., Hempstead.

East Williston Park

Arrest for Robbery

A Mineola man was arrested for a robbery that occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, in East Williston Park.

According to detectives, a 15-year-old male victim was walking through the Long Island Railroad parking lot, located at 447 Sagamore Ave. Two unknown male subjects approached the victim from behind and grabbed his shirt while removing his gold chain. The subjects fled on foot.

Subsequent to the investigation, officers located Dani Akhtar, 18, in the Long Island Railroad parking lot and placed him under arrest without further incident. No injuries were reported.

Akhtar is charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at First District Court, 99 Main St., Hempstead.

Subject two, who was not apprehended, is described as a male white, thin build, 18 to 25 years of age, approximately 6’0” tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with white letters on the back, white shirt and black pants. The investigation is ongoing.

Mineola

Arrest

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Centereach woman for an incident that occurred on Monday, Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Mineola.

According to detectives, police responded to a disturbance at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building located at 1550 Franklin Ave. Upon arrival, officers were informed that an individual was becoming disorderly and was asked to exit the facility. While escorting the attendee off premise, Maria Campanelli, 26, did intentionally intervene in an effort to prohibit officers from performing their duties.

After multiple warnings were issued, officers attempted to place Campanelli into custody. Campanelli became noncompliant and deliberately caused an officer to trip and fall, injuring his knees and wrist. Campanelli was placed under arrest and the officer was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Campanelli is charged with second degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. She was arraigned on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at First District Court 99 Main St., Hempstead.

DWI

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Bayshore man for aggravated driving while intoxicated on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 1:29 a.m. in Mineola.

While on patrol, officers observed a black 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Jericho Turnpike. The officers conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop near the intersection of Jay Court. During the investigation, officers observed the operator of the vehicle, Carlos Palaguachi, 51, to have slightly slurred speech and the smell of alcohol emanating from his breath. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted, resulting in positive results.

Palaguachi was placed under arrest without incident. The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old male juvenile, was released into the custody of a family member that responded to the scene.

Palaguachi is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under the Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic Infractions. Palaguachi was arraigned on Sunday, Aug. 11 at First District Court, located at 99 Main St., Hempstead.

North Bellmore

Public Lewdness

The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a North Merrick man for Public Lewdness on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:20 p.m. in North Bellmore.

According to police, Darwin Taylor, 72, was at CVS located at 2660 Jerusalem Ave. where he was observed by a female victim, 14, exposing himself and touching his genitals in the parking lot of this location. After a thorough investigation, the defendant was located and placed under arrest without incident.

Taylor is charged with public lewdness, indecent exposure and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable on Monday, Aug. 12 to First District Court 99 Main St., Hempstead.

North Massapequa

Burglary

A burglary occurred on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 9 p.m. in North Massapequa.

According to detectives, Seventh Precinct officers responded to New Forever Elegant Nail Salon, located at 915 North Broadway, for a commercial burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined that an unknown subject(s) entered the business through a rear window. Further investigation revealed that an unknown amount of US currency had been removed from the cash register.

There is no description of the subject(s) and no known direction of flight. The investigation is ongoing.
