OBHS Softball Team Capture Nassau County Class ‘C’ Championship

On Saturday, June 6 the Oyster Bay High School Lady Baymen Softball Team completed a two game sweep of East Rockaway to clinch the Nassau County Class ‘C’ Championship.

In game one the Lady Baymen roared out of the gate to an 11 to 5 victory. The Rocks of East Rockaway were not going to go quietly, however. They showed up for game two with plenty of fight and were able to score first and hold the one run lead for most of the game.

The Lady Baymen battled back in the late innings to tie the game and send the contest into extra innings. In the top of the 8th inning Joshlyn Grant sent a line drive into the outfield which allowed Keri Bongivanni to round third and score the go ahead run.

Keri Apicella, who pitched the complete game, took to the mound in the bottom of the 8th to try and protect a two run lead. Keri struck out the final batter to give the Lady Baymen a 3 to 1 victory and clinch the County championship.

The Lady Baymen advanced to the Long Island Championship with a game against Port Jefferson at noon on Tuesday, June 9 at Mitchel Field. They didn’t make the next cut, but with a record of nine wins and 13 losses during the season, winning the Nassau County Championship was a great feat for the team. They can be proud of that!
