Sewanhaka’s Lacrosse Program Highlighted
For nearly 120 years, Long Island has fielded high school sports and teams. Over the years, numerous local athletes rose to the highest level, dynasties were built, legends were made and the nation’s largest island was filled with captivating athletic stories and sports lore than will live forever.
In a new book by Arcadia Publishing, local author Christopher R. Vaccaro strings together a pictorial history of Long Island’s oldest, most famous and well-respected teams, coaches and athletes. With over a century of historical photographs featured in the text, Vaccaro did his due diligence to shed light on the teams that got the ball rolling on Long Island.
He hopes the book will “bridge the gap from the origins of high school sports on Long Island with athletes of today.”
Highlights of Long Island High School Sports features never-before seen vintage photographs from both public and private collections and reveals images from schools that no longer exist. The book also includes chapters for every major sport Long Island has on the high school sports scene and showcases the professional athletes that have played at and graduated from Long Island high schools.
Vaccaro is an award-winning journalist, author and researcher from Long Island. He is the author of two previous books on Long Island high school sports and has written for more than 40 publications. A former editor at the New York Daily News, Vaccaro has appeared on high school sports television segments and hosted local sports talk shows.
The book is available at area bookstores, independent retailers and online retailers or through Arcadia Publishing at (888) 313-2665 or www.arcadiapublishing.com.
