Women’s History Month

March is designated as Women’s History Month and every year during this time, the Town of Hempstead takes the time to reflect upon the many accomplishments that women have achieved. As the first woman to be elected supervisor of the Town of Hempstead, National Women’s History Month is very important to me. Women’s History Month is dedicated to recognizing the advancement and outstanding accomplishments of women. Through the years, women have successfully achieved well-deserved positions of leadership within our community, reaching to their fullest potential as they continue to progress professionally. The role of women in our community and the numerous contributions they have made deserve our highest praise.

In honor of National Women’s History Month, the Town of Hempstead is hosting our annual Pathfinder Awards on Tuesday, March 9 at 3 p.m. in the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion.

The Pathfinder Awards recognize the talent and commitment women have shown in the fields of education, health services, business, the arts, community affairs, volunteerism and humanitarianism. A high school senior of distinction will also be honored as well as a dedicated Town of Hempstead employee.

Whether it is a woman who is committed to ensuring compassionate health care services for all people, with special attention to the poor and uninsured, a mother who continues to dedicate her life to the betterment of children by volunteering in numerous community organizations, or a student who not only excels in her studies but is a leader among her fellow peers, the nine honorees we are recognizing this year are truly extraordinary women. They are individuals who are fine role models not only for women but also for everyone. They represent the thousands of women whose daily activities strengthen the community and encourage its positive development for our young women.

I invite all residents to attend the Pathfinder Awards in celebration of Women’s History Month and to support their fellow neighbors.
