Congratulations to 26-year-old Franklin Diaz of Farmingdale, who scored as the 13th finisher overall and second in the highly competitive 25-29 age group in the 33rd annual Nationwide 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, held on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage on March 27.
Diaz crossed the finish line at the H. B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview in 36 minutes, 38 seconds.
Special thanks and congratulations to race Director Bob Windorf and the host Greater Long Island Running Club for another job well done, and to the very generous Tony Wiszowaty of Nationwide Insurance for continuing his support for this event again. The Runner’s Edge and Mizuno also returned as much valued sponsors.
The Town of Oyster Bay, under the leadership of Supervisor John Venditto, has been a very loyal supporter since the run’s inception. Diane Ramos and her team from the TOB Recreation Department once again put out an incredible effort to make this run one of Long Island’s finest community events.
As always, the entire net proceeds of the run are turned over to the ASPIRE program for the support and rehabilitation of young amputees, victim of sarcoma and traumatic amputations, and lots of young amputees were on hand to participate in the run once again this year.
