The Floral Park-Bellerose Board of Education has two trustee positions open for re-election on May 18, 2010. Sitting trustees David Tsoupros and Robert Burke are both running unopposed for these trustee positions. Their brief biographies appear below:
David Tsoupros
David Tsoupros and his wife, Rose, have lived in Floral Park for the past 9 years with their four children, ages 7,6,4 and 1. With young children in John Lewis Childs School, Tsoupros has a particularly strong interest in seeing that the Floral Park-Bellerose School District maintains high standards of academic achievement.
Tsoupros is a partner and Senior Research Analyst at Roaring Brook Capital, a NY-based investment firm. He graduated from the University of Virginia and is a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA). He believes his career experience can bring perspective on how Floral Park can continue to invest in its students’ future in spite of the obstacles brought on by a tough economy.
Tsoupros has been an interim board trustee since November 2009 after a position was left vacant by the resignation of Patrick Salmon.
Robert Burke
Robert Burke has been a member of The Floral Park-Bellerose Board Education for 15 years, and was on the Sewanhaka Central High School Board of Education for five years. Burke grew up in Elmont, the youngest of three sons and moved to Floral Park 22 years ago.
Burke lives with his wife, Cheryl, and two sons, Burke, 26 and Jonathan, 25. He is the owner of a family run Bio-Medical service company. He first ran for the school board because he wanted to volunteer to aide children with their education, and to help the community.
“After 15 years, I have been a part of the decision making process for our children’s education, including curriculum, administrative, personnel, budget and finances, and setting policies. My goal has always been to set standards that will not only help our children today, but also to protect the education of our children in the future, Burke stated.
“The budget process this year has been the most difficult that I have seen in 15 years. The state has unfairly cut our high tax aid, while giving increases to the districts surrounding our community. I would like to be a part of the challenge of getting our state aid back. I look forward to working with my fellow board of education members and to work together with them to continue to attain the high standards set by our previous boards of education,” Burke said.
