Community Mourns Loss of Camp Counselors

Hundreds Gather for Funeral Masses in Floral Park

The Floral Park community is grieving the death of three of its most beloved youth, who were killed tragically in a car crash on the Meadowbrook Parkway last week. Under stormy skies, hundreds of mourners lined the streets to pay respects to the victims during two funeral Masses held on Monday, July 19, and Tuesday, July 20 at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church in Floral Park.

The three Camp Anchor counselors, Michael Mulhall, 22, Paige Malone, 19, and her sister, Jamie Malone, 22, were driving south on the Meadowbrook when they were killed in a one-car accident on their way to work at Camp Anchor, a camp for disabled children, in Lido Beach. Two other passengers, Kelly Murphy, 20, and Michael Mulhall’s sister, Justine, 20, the driver of the vehicle, were also injured in the crash. Both of the survivors were reported to be in stable condition and were released from Nassau University Medical Center.

“Words cannot describe this horrific tragedy. On behalf of the Floral Park Community, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Malone and Mulhall families. We have a great support network in our village and I know that our residents will provide comfort to the families and friends now and in the many months to follow,” Floral Park Mayor Kevin Greene said.

Camp Anchor has set up a scholarship in memory of Michael Mulhall and Jamie and Paige Malone. For more information, visit campanchor.org.
