The 13- and 14-year-old Cardinal Baseball teams competed in a split squad game on July 30 at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. The boys prepared for the trip all spring, participating in numerous fundraisers and raffles throughout the year so as to maximize their experience.
In addition to playing on the field, a field where hundreds of Major League players and future Hall of Famers also played, the trip included a tour of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
Arriving on July 29, the group of close to 60 players and fans took part in a team barbecue, followed by a spirited “players versus dads” football game. The next morning included a team breakfast, then on to Doubleday Field for the game. Splitting into teams of Gold and Blue, the boys played for close to two and a half hours.
After the game, it was on to the Hall of Fame then a return to the hotel for swimming, volleyball and a late dinner.
Overall, the trip was a terrific experience for the boys, their parents and fans, as they combined sports, history and camaraderie into one incredible weekend.
