Residents Can Drop Off Gently Worn Shoes to Help World’s Neediest Areas
According to Soles 4 Shoes, there are more than 300 million people around the world without shoes. Countless millions of adults share the same fate. Most of our closets are filled with shoes we rarely wear and that eventually end up in the trash. The reality of life for many individuals in developing nations is that having a pair of shoes is a rarity. It is not uncommon for children to grow up in these areas without ever having had a pair of shoes at all.
Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. When these shoes break down in our landfills, the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere. Soles 4 Soles can save your shoes from early death by cleaning them and shipping them to needy people around the world, who will treasure the gift for years to come. Shoes help prevent the spread of parasites that plague over 1.4 billion people worldwide, and they are a basic human necessity.
Bella DeSimone, a seventh-grader in Friends Academy and her sister Gabi de Simone, a fifth-grader at FPBS will join thousands of volunteers nationwide to meet Sole 4 Sole of gathering by FP Associated Supermarket, located at 167 Tulip Ave., Floral Park, and the rest of their community.
Please drop off your gently worn shoes (any kind, size or make) and a $2 donation per pair, to cover shipping costs, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 6, in the boxes located by the check out area.
