Senior Joe LaCorte placed 2nd in the steeple chase. This was a particularly grueling 3000 meter race which included a water jump. With the temperature hovering at 35 degrees, Joe’s motivation to clear the water was simple. Keep himself from freezing. A 2010 state qualifier in the steeple jump, LaCorte is no stranger to the event, and placed second to Great Neck South’s Ben Siegel with a time of 10:58.2.
Seniors Bobby Singh, Scott McGee and Andrew Kenn also earned medals. Singh, a senior sprinter, placed third in the 100m and 200m races. Bobby’s athleticism is a key asset to the Baymen track team, as he has been called upon to run the 400 meter race, as well as throw the shot put and discus. Andrew Kenn placed third on the 400 meter hurdles, while Scott McGee was able to high jump 5 feet, and earn a medal for 4th place.
Daniel Eng placed 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet 6 inches. Capable of jumping 6 feet, Daniel has been hampered by leg discomfort. However, he is the team leader in all jumping events, and doesn’t expect to be affected in the long run.
Teddy Hamlin and T.J Butler were the lone sophomores who medaled on Saturday. Though inexperienced in the mile, Teddy was able to outkick his teammate for a fourth place finish, while Butler earned a medal for placing fifth.
The Baymen hope to defend their divisional title on May 17. The return of Patryk Tauter, and the continued improvement of several team members should make the Baymen a formidable opponent for their Division 4b adversaries.
