Summer Music on the Green

The Garden City Recreation Dept. will again run it summer concert series at the Gazebo on the Village Green. All concerts will be held on Thursday in July and will begin at 7:15 pm. Bring your own chairs or blankets and enjoy this free series.

July 7 – The Clusters – playing the sound of the ’50s

July 14 – Manhattan Skyline – contemporary sounds from the ’60s through the ’80s

July 21 – the Tercels – sings your favorite oldies

July 28 – Rag Doll – A Tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

In the event of a less than beautiful day, all shows will be held indoors in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall, 295 Stewart Ave.

Summer Zumba!

The following exercise classes for adults will be offered by the Recreation Department:

Zumba Tuesdays at 8 p.m. 7 weeks $63

Zumba Saturdays at 10 a.m. 7 weeks $63

All classes are lead by Felicia Lovaglio, Director of our Dance Conservatory and adjunct professor at Adelphi. Each class is one hour long and will be held in the Senior Center on Golf Club Lane. All classes will begin the week of July 5. To register for any of these classes, please visit our Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave,

Miniature Golf at Community Park

If you are looking for a fun family outing, please visit Community Park’s mini golf course. For a nominal fee, you play on a state of the art 18 hole course which offers challenges, twists and turns for all! No reservations are required, just come to Community Park and enjoy.

We offer a beautiful setting, complete with a shaded picnic area and playground close by, so it is perfect for that family night out children’s event, especially birthday parties. Special birthday party or group packages for 10 or more are available and all are reasonably priced. For parties or group information or reservations, please visit Community Park’s office next to the Mini Golf area or call 516-483-2525.

Summer Adult Yoga Classes

Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Each class is one hour long. All classes will begin the week of July 5. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays at 7:30 p.m. beginning July 11 five classes for $30

Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. beginning July 7 six classes for $36

Camps and Workshops For the Older Child

If your older child is looking for something to do this summer, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. The following camps are open to children ages 9 and up.

Tennis – ages 9 to 11: 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Camp is offered in one-week sessions for several different weeks during the summer

Tennis – ages 12 to 18: 2:30 – 4 p.m. Camp is offered in one-week session almost all summer

Computers – ages 9 – 12: 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. One-day workshops, held on several Tuesdays, topics include web design, computer animation, Photoshop, and making your own music video!

Yoga workshop – ages 10 – 14: 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. the week of Aug. 15

Walk-In Camp Registration Has Begun

Summer Adult Tennis Lessons Registration Begins

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:

Session 2 – 4 weeks beginning July 5 Cost: $100

Session 3 – 4 weeks beginning Aug. 2 Cost: $100

Computer Kindergarten Workshop for Adults

This hands-on workshop is for the person who wants to get more knowledge of their computer and its uses. Each week a different computer topic will be shown and discussed, building on the experiences of previous weeks. No experience is necessary and computers will be provided for use. Space is limited to 24 people and preregistration is necessary. To register, visit the Administration Office at 108 Rockaway Ave.

Cost: $65 for seven weeks
