Robert James Clemens, 85, of Leesburg, FL, was born April 21, 1926 in Brooklyn, and died Oct. 17, 2011. He was a resident of Floral Park for more than 30 years.
Mr. Clemens was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving in WWII. He moved to Leesburg in 1996 from Floral Park, where he worked in transportation logistics for Texas Transport (3T’s), Conboy Trucking and Associated Transport. He served as a Republican Committee member for 19 years in Floral Park, was a member and former two-term Governor of the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City and member of the American Legion. He was active in the “Plantation at Leesburg” after retiring there and member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor of Leesburg; sons: Peter Clemens of Leesburg and Robert (Charlene) Clemens of San Francisco, CA; sister Barbara Burdett of New Hampshire; brother Edward “Pete” Clemens of NJ; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends in Floral Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on October 20, 2011 with Father John Giel.
